acceptance test)-Tests
mit vertikalen und
horizontalen Dünnschichttrock-
nern im Stammwerk in Stein-
haus (Österreich), im Beisein
des chinesischen Endkunden,
stattgefunden.
Dabei handelt es sich um einen
zweistufigen Prozess, wobei die
erste Stufe aus zwei vertikalen
Dünnschichttrocknern besteht,
die im Wesentlichen das Glyce-
rin von MONG und Salzen trennt.
Die zweite Stufe bildet ein ho-
rizontaler Dünnschichttrockner,
der als „Decomposer“ fungiert.
Das heißt die Einsatzstoffe wer-
den in einen gasförmigen Strom
umsetzt und die Feststoffe (Ruß
und Salz) abgeschieden. Das
Besondere in diesem Verfahren
ist, dass dieser Prozess bei über
450 Grad Celsius abläuft und der
Dünnschichttrockner elektrisch
beheizt ist.
Generell sind Dünnschicht-
trockner von Kremsmüller
geeignet für die Trocknung
von feuchten Feststof-
fen, Klärschlamm, Indus-
trieschlamm, Pasten und
neuerdings für die Aufar-
beitung von Altplastik zu
Treibstoff.
Das zu trocknende Einsatz-
produkt wird gleichmäßig über
den Umfang in einer dünnen Schicht
mittels eines speziell designten Ro-
tors auf der Heizfläche hochturbu-
lent verteilt.
Je nach Bauart des Trockners (ho-
rizontal oder vertikal) ist der Rotor
mit für den jeweiligen Einsatzzweck
speziellen Rotorelementen bestückt.
Durch diese spezielle Konstruk-
tion können Einsatzprodukte – von
flüssig bis pulverförmig – wirt-
schaftlich getrocknet werden.
Thin-film dryers

urrently Kremsmueller
successfully conduc-
ted FAT(factory accep-
tance tests)-tests with
vertical and horizontal thin-
film dryers at its headquarters
in Steinhaus (Austria). The
plant will be built for a Chinese
customer.
The tests are two-staged,
whereas the first stage consists
of two vertical thin-film-dryers,
which separate glycerine from
MONG and salts. The second stage
is a horizontal thin-film-dryer,
which acts as “decomposer”. This
means that the raw materials are
turned over to gas and that the
solids (carbon and salt) are sepa-
rated. Whats so special about this
method – The process operates
with 450 degrees and the dryer is
heated electrically.
The flexible thin-film drying tech-
nology from Kremsmueller can be
used for continuous drying of wet
solids, municipal sludges, industrial
sludge, pastes, and chemical prod-
ucts. It is also suitable for heat-
sensitive products, such as poly-
mers, foods and pharmaceuticals.
The product to be dried is dis-
tributed over the circumference
of the heating surface to form a
downward-flowing thin film of liq-
uid that is stirred by a specially
shaped rotor system to create op-
timal turbulence. Depending on the
design of the dryer (horizontal or
vertical) the rotor is equipped with
different wiper elements. So these
dryers can produce dry powder from
a liquid feed. They can be used
either alone, or as a pre- or post-
dryer combined with other equip-
ment. The treatment requires a
custom tailored solution, because
the configuration is depending on
the application.

n 2003, the Tummers
Group acquired the English
company Simon Dryers –
experts and world-leaders
in drying techniques in various
industries. With a history dating
back to late nineteenth century,
Simon Dryers is a very broad-
based company.
Early in the twentieth cen-
tury, founder Richard Simon
obtained licences for the manu-
facture of "drum dryers" which
brought about a clear change
in the business, as the focus on
traditional markets in the food
and drink sectors gave way to a
wide variety of applications for
its technology, particularly in
the chemical and pharmaceuti-
cal industries.
In this century, the Simon Dry-
ers company has been increasingly
involved in processes not only
intended to meet today's market
demand, but also to provide the
improvements in our surroundings
that we all desire. The company is
thus involved in testing and devel-
oping medicines and new materi-
als which are better for the envi-
ronment and conserve our natural
resources. The strength of Simon
Dryers is not only to be found in
its products, but also in the way
the company works. A long tradi-
tion of successful innovations and
applications goes hand-in-hand
